CEMS for Iron and Steel Mills (Ferrous Metals)

Continuous emission monitoring system for iron and steel mills, combining extractive gas analysers, in-situ gas analysers and in-situ particulate analysers to measure SO2, NO2 and total PM from sinter plants, coke ovens and furnaces.

Overview

About the CEMS for Iron and Steel Mills (Ferrous Metals).

This continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) for iron and steel mills measures sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and total particulate matter (PM) at the stack. Depending on the source, it combines extractive gas analysers, in-situ gas analysers and in-situ particulate analysers. Readings pass to a CEMS data interface system (DIS) and on to the DOE / EPA server over TCP/IP, supporting compliance with the emission limit values that apply to the production and processing of ferrous metals.

Features

  • Covers sinter plants, coke ovens, blast furnaces (regenerator), basic oxygen furnaces (converter gas) and electric arc furnaces
  • Extractive and in-situ gas analysers for SO2 and NO2
  • In-situ particulate analysers for total PM / dust
  • Data acquisition system (DAS) and data interface system (DIS)
  • 4–20 mA signals to the CEMS-DIS and TCP/IP link to the DOE / EPA server

How it works

  • SO2, extractive: NDIR, NDUV, GFC, FTIR, PAS or fluorescence
  • SO2, in-situ: DOAS, GFC or FTIR
  • NO2, extractive: NDUV, PAS or fluorescence; in-situ: DOAS
  • Total PM / dust, extractive: light scatter or beta absorption
  • Total PM / dust, in-situ: transmissometry, triboelectric, double pass or single pass

Emission limit values (mg/m³)

  • Sinter plants (waste gas from the sintering belt): SO2 500, NO2 400, total PM 50
  • Coke ovens: total PM 40
  • Blast furnace (regenerator), basic oxygen furnace (converter gas) and electric arc furnaces: total PM 50

Applications

  • Iron and steel mills
  • Sinter plants and coke ovens
  • Blast, basic oxygen and electric arc furnaces
