Overview
About the Metal Tube Variable Area Flow Meter.
The metal tube variable area flow meter measures the volumetric flow of liquids and gases with a float that rises in a metering tube. As the fluid flows upward, the float moves until the lifting force and the gravitational force are in balance; the annular area between the float and the orifice is then proportional to the float height, so the height represents the flow rate. The float position is passed to the external indicator by magnetic coupling, and a cam plate turns it into a linear reading on the dial. The all-metal construction withstands high pressure and high temperature, suiting chemical, petroleum, metallurgy and power plant duty.
Features
- Rugged all-metal design for high-pressure and high-temperature service
- Direct local reading on the indicator dial
- Modular concept for easy stocking of parts, with full interchangeability of components and assemblies
- Adjustable to any fluid by replacing the cam plate
- Short-stroke design: parts do not project beyond the flange, whatever the float position
- Electrical or pneumatic remote data transmission
- Limit switches can be fitted
- Normal and corrosion-proof versions
How it works
- The float rises in the tube until lift and weight are balanced
- The flow area around the float, and so the float height, is proportional to the volumetric flow rate
- A magnetic coupling transfers the float position to the indicator
- A cam board linearises the pointer movement on the scale
Applications
- Chemical industry
- Petroleum
- Metallurgy
- Power plants
- Environmental protection
- Medical science
